The Story
From Grave Digger to Scholar – The Legacy of Sheikh Abdurrahman Alhaffar
In the late 18th to early 19th century Damascus, a humble grave digger named Abdurrahman Al-Haffar experienced two extraordinary moments that would change his life forever. What began as a life of hard, physical labor in the sacred cemeteries of Damascus turned into a journey toward knowledge, faith, and lasting legacy — a transformation that still defines the House of Haffar today.

House of Haffar Companies
Since the early 1800s, House of Haffar companies including the Ain al-Fijah Water Company and the Corporate Association of Textile and Cotton Producing Companies have been entrepreneurial forces in their respective industries. In parallel, the Alhaffar family has sought to use its long-standing influence and wealth for the greater benefit of all Syrians especially during the war of independence against the French mandate.
